A 3D scanner is a device used to capture the shape and size of an object, which can convert the three-dimensional model of the object into digital data through laser or other means. The working steps of a 3D scanner can be summarized into the following stages:
1、 Preparation work
Equipment inspection: Ensure that the 3D scanner is fully charged and all components are functioning properly, including controllers, power supplies, data storage devices, etc., and check if they are properly connected. At the same time, check whether the storage medium has sufficient space and whether the device lens and outer surface are clean to ensure scanning quality.
Environmental assessment: Choose an environment suitable for scanning, avoiding strong direct sunlight, strong winds, high vibrations, or extreme temperatures. Ensure stable environment to reduce the impact on scanning accuracy.
Place the object to be scanned: Clean the surface of the object to be scanned and place it on a stable and flat surface to avoid interference factors such as shadows or reflections. For some objects that require fixed positions, locators or fixtures can be used for fixation.
2、 Setting and Calibration
Install scanning software: Download and install the corresponding scanning software based on the scanner model and operating system. These software can control scanners and process scanned data.
Set up scanner: According to the specific model and brand, follow the instructions in the manual to set up the 3D scanner, including adjusting the position and angle of the scanner to better capture the three-dimensional data of the object being measured.
Camera calibration: Before starting scanning, the camera needs to be calibrated to ensure accuracy. This typically involves placing a reference object in a specific location and collecting image data.
Setting parameters: Set scanning parameters based on the characteristics and accuracy requirements of the scanned object, including scanning speed, scanning angle, scanning resolution, etc. The commonly used scanning resolution range is 0.5mm to 50mm, and the scanning range can be adjusted as needed, choosing 360 ° panoramic scanning or local area scanning.
3、 Execute scan
Start the scanner: Press the power button to start the device and patiently wait for the system to complete the self-test and initialization process. Then, select the appropriate parameter settings (such as resolution, color, etc.) on the software control interface, and click the start button to execute the scanning process.
Mobile handheld device: If using a handheld 3D scanner, it is necessary to move the device along the object being measured while observing the real-time image displayed on the screen. Pay attention to maintaining uniform and steady motion to obtain more accurate results.
Monitor scanning progress: closely monitor the real-time progress information on the device display screen and check for any missing or abnormal areas. If any problems are found, the scan should be stopped immediately and necessary adjustments or supplementary scans should be made.
4、 Data processing and output
Wait for completion and save data: After scanning all necessary areas, wait for the program to process the data and generate the final result. Once completed, you can choose to save the file to your computer or other storage media.
Data export: Transfer scanned data from the scanner to the computer and select the appropriate file format to save the data. Common formats include. e57 Pts,. las, etc. At the same time, cultivate the good habit of timely backup to avoid the risk of data loss.
Post processing: Conduct post-processing work as needed, including removing unnecessary parts, filling missing areas, optimizing models, and other operations. Professional software such as Autodesk ReCap, Leica Cyclone, etc. can be used to edit and optimize data.
Data analysis and application: Conduct data analysis according to actual needs, such as extracting surface features of objects, calculating volume and surface area, etc. These data can be applied to multiple fields such as engineering construction, cultural heritage protection, and production manufacturing.
5、 Maintenance and upkeep
In order to ensure the long-term stable operation of the 3D scanner and the accuracy of the scanned data, regular maintenance and upkeep work is also required. This includes cleaning equipment lenses and outer surfaces, dust and moisture prevention, temperature control, and regular calibration.
In summary, the working steps of a 3D scanner involve multiple aspects such as preparation, setup and calibration, scanning execution, data processing and output, as well as maintenance and upkeep. Following these steps and precautions can ensure the smooth progress of the scanning process and the accuracy of the scanned data.
